MOTOBECANE

Motor cycles and cycle motors.

Motobécane and Kaptein database
Since 1990 I have been collecting information about the models, engine numbers, frame numbers for my Motobécane/Kaptein database. I started doing this, because nobody could tell me when my cycles were built.
In the Netherlands Motobécane and Kaptein were just names from the past.
Club Motobécane de France was still in an embryonal stage and getting information about these archaic models from the local cycle shops was as hard as finding a drunken hermit in a public house. This top down approach of getting information from Yamaha Europe in the Netherlands (the new owner of MBK and formerly Motobécane), dealers and from clubs was a complete failure at those days.

When asking for parts at the local shops in the Netherlands in the early nineteen's they looked at me as if I came from an other planet.
After many deceptions I decided to set up a database for information about Kaptein and Motobécane. This bottom-up approach of collecting information from still existing vehicles and from earlier documents has resulted in a better understanding of the production program of Kaptein and also - but in in a less degree- of Motobécane.longlife
A lot of help was given by the members of Dutch clubs and the British / International NACC.  Together we are searching of  what is still left of our favourite vehicles. In 1997 I started publishing on this web site as a service for members of cycle motor clubs and other enthusiasts.
So nowadays when information of a cycle motor is missing people can be helped properly. The result is an increasing number of old Motobécane and Kaptein vehicles on the road again. Wrinkled foreheads and question marks have altered to admiration and exclamation marks.

Our mission can be defined as follows:

Exchanging information and knowledge about: parts, technical solutions and all kind of initiatives with regard to Motobécane and Kaptein products.

.What can you do?
When you have some data for us please fill out the form under chapter Questions.
For a list of Kaptein mopeds download: List of models
In future I will publish a list of Motobécane models.

SolidWorks

New developments can influence the way we practice our great hobby.
Modern engines can be use to produce small amount of rare spares and the influence of the Internet is overwhelming.
At this moment I  observe a new trend of very modern CAD-systems used for designing spares and tools.
Members of Motobécane Club de France are developing a new Motoconfort Motor bike.

Even on this website you could have noticed a simple 3D tool drawing and more to follow.

A drawing of Kaptein mobylette enthusiast Rene Peters shows what the potential of SolidWorks really is.
You should realize that the drawing is built out of geometric forms and that construction drawing (including measures)
can be directly derived  from that 3D drawing.
Rene has reached a high level. You won't surprised to hear that he has his own design business.

Certainly a new interesting challenge for some of us, because it is far from simple.
