About this site
Poney 50 the ancestor of the mobylette
This site is a free non commercial site, which is supported by a lot of people sending us interesting pictures and stories. You will miss a lot of rubbish on this site like: advertisements, nasty pop-up screens, cookies, spyware and  of course long superfluous Flash intros and other trash.

Reactions are welcome; We get them from all over the world: but yet the majority comes from EU (European Union), USA, Canada, Bermuda, and Australia. No wonder, because people in these countries mostly have access to Internet, are more prosperous and have a large technical tradition.
In the Netherlands this website was the third one also specialized in small powered engines.
This Kaptein / Motobécane site started in May 1997 and since that date we have tried to improve this site regularly.

Pantin
The former URL of this site  (http://web.inter.nl.net /HCC/kessel) was really a cryptic one and that is why we in May 2004 chose for: www.pantin.nl
Pantin is the part of Paris, where Motobécane started designing, engineering and producing motor cycles. Early in the sixties of previous century a new factory was built in the North of France near the city St.-Quentin.

Pantin stands in French also for marionette (puppet). A striking example of the meaning of this word is shown by the picture of that other French historical female highlight called BB. Around the year 1900, Pantin used to be an industrial zone at the north-east side of Paris. During a trip in Drenthe in 2004 we discovered in the museum village Orvelte (The Netherlands) an old steam engine with the name Pantin on it. Click here if you want to know more about the history of Pantin. Language of this article is French.

Name H.van Kessel Henk van Kessel

This name is sometimes a bit confusing, because your webmaster lives in Helmond and is a Kaptein and Motobécane enthusiast.
About 32 kilometers from Helmond there is a small village called Mill, where Henk van Kessel World champion 50cc 1974 lives.
This Kreidler specialist and former Kreidler racer is also leader of the world speed record 50 cc with a Dutch engine called Black Arrow. The average speed was 222 km/h and the record was reached in September 1977. So a great name!
